First Lenovo Legion Go S Handhelds with SteamOS Available for Pre-Order Now, Shipping May 25!

San Francisco, California – Lenovo has broken new ground by unveiling the first handheld gaming devices running SteamOS that are not from Valve itself. The Legion Go S handhelds, equipped with SteamOS, are set to be released on May 25, as reported by The Verge. The pricing for the Legion Go S with SteamOS starts at $549.99, a $50 increase from Lenovo’s original promise of $499.99.

These new handhelds boast features such as an 8-inch, 120Hz OLED display, ergonomic controls, a fingerprint reader/touchpad, 16GB of RAM, and the AMD Ryzen Z2 Go chip. For $200 more, consumers can opt for the model featuring the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor and 32GB of RAM, providing a more powerful gaming experience.

One of the key attractions of these devices is the pre-loaded SteamOS, which offers seamless setup and access to a wide range of games through Valve’s Proton compatibility software. Lenovo had previously launched a Windows 11 version of the Legion Go S in February for $730, receiving praise for its performance but also criticism for its high price point and limitations imposed by the Windows operating system.

With the Legion Go S powered by SteamOS priced at $549.99 for the base model and $749.99 for the higher-end variant, consumers have the opportunity to experience a gaming handheld that is specifically tailored for the Steam ecosystem. The addition of more SteamOS devices to the market provides users with increased options for portable gaming.

Pre-orders for the Legion Go S with SteamOS are currently available, with shipping scheduled for May 25. Additionally, Lenovo is offering a version of the Legion Go S with the more powerful Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor and Windows 11 for $829.99, providing consumers with options based on their preferences and gaming needs.
