San Francisco, California – Google is currently making efforts to reintroduce a dedicated shortcut for toggling Do Not Disturb mode in the Quick Settings panel for Android users. Previously, users were able to quickly toggle Do Not Disturb mode from a dedicated Quick Settings shortcut; however, in the latest Android 15 quarterly release, this shortcut was replaced with Modes, requiring an extra step to toggle Do Not Disturb mode.
The change sparked backlash from users who found the new process of toggling Do Not Disturb mode less efficient than the previous one-tap method. Recognizing the frustration among users, Google appears to be responding to feedback by working on bringing back the dedicated Do Not Disturb tile.
The introduction of the new Modes feature in the latest Pixel Drop update allowed users to create highly personalized Do Not Disturb schedules with custom names, icons, triggers, display settings, and notification options. While this feature added customization options for users, it also resulted in the Do Not Disturb tile no longer toggling the mode with a single tap, as it now requires users to navigate through a panel to select the desired mode.
To address the concerns raised by users, Google is developing a new dedicated tile specifically for toggling Do Not Disturb mode, mirroring the functionality of the original tile prior to the Android 15 update. This new tile is expected to coexist with the existing Modes tile, allowing users to choose between the two options in their Quick Settings.
While the new Do Not Disturb tile is functional in the beta version of Android 16, the official release date remains unclear. Google may include the feature in the first quarterly release of Android 16 (QPR1). In the meantime, users seeking a dedicated Do Not Disturb tile can utilize an open-source app as an alternative option.
For those who desire a more streamlined experience when toggling Do Not Disturb mode on their Android devices, the forthcoming dedicated tile from Google offers a promising solution. The ability to choose between the new tile and the existing Modes tile provides users with flexibility and control over their Do Not Disturb settings.
