(AbsoluteNews.com) – The country is finally starting to get back to normal a year and a half into the COVID-19 pandemic. Americans are getting vaccinated and businesses are resuming normal operations. Health restrictions are being loosened and it looks like we’re nearing the end of the tunnel. So, why did Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) recently extend proxy voting for 45 days?
On Monday, May 17, Pelosi announced proxy voting would continue until July. The next day, House Republicans sent the Speaker a letter demanding she end proxy voting. According to the lawmakers, approximately 75% of Congress has been fully vaccinated. The CDC has loosened restrictions for those people allowing them to stop social distancing and wearing masks. They argue the delays created by proxy voting are unreasonable in light of the updated guidance.
This morning, my office hand-delivered a letter from every Republican in House and Committee leadership to @speakerpelosi and @leaderhoyer calling for an end to proxy voting. It's time to lead by example and get back to work. pic.twitter.com/c59lDdAY5v

Republicans believe it’s time for Congress to get back to work for the American people, without the proxy voting delays. They think lawmakers should be leading by example. If the people of this country have to go to work every day, why should politicians be able to stay home?
