Government Offers Free At-Home COVID Testing Kits

(AbsoluteNews.com) – As the COVID-19 Omicron variant spreads across the US, it’s been difficult for many Americans to get tested. In some places, the lines are hours long. The federal government is trying to ease the strain on testing sites by providing at-home test kits to the American people.

On January 18, President Joe Biden’s administration launched the COVIDtests.gov website where Americans can sign-up to receive free at-home test kits. The POTUS promised to provide one billion in total, and each household will get four free tests. Those who want them delivered must sign up on the site, and no payment or insurance information is required.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) will start shipping the test kits to households at the end of the month. The White House says it’s prioritizing the first 20% of each day’s deliveries to go to ZIP codes with the highest rates of COVID-19 cases.

According to reports, more than 500,000 users were signing up for the tests on Tuesday afternoon. The website began experiencing some issues, but the White House doesn’t seem overly concerned about it.

In addition to the free tests, the government will reportedly begin providing 400 million free N95 masks to pharmacies and health centers around the country. Citizens will be able to pick the masks up at those places at the end of January and early February.
