LOS ANGELES, CA – Los Angeles police are urging potential victims to come forward following the arrest of a former high school guidance counselor accused of a series of sexual assaults. The suspect, 37-year-old Julie Tichon, allegedly committed the assaults against a 16-year-old boy between February and March 2024.
Tichon, who previously worked at Gamma High School in West Los Angeles, was taken into custody and booked into the L.A. County Metropolitan Detention Center. Although the assaults did not occur on school grounds, her role as a guidance counselor has raised concerns within the community.
Authorities are investigating whether there may be additional victims. LAPD detectives have expressed the importance of bringing any further information to light, emphasizing the potential for other individuals who may have been affected by Tichon’s actions.
“We need to ensure that anyone who might have been victimized has the opportunity to come forward,” said one detective involved in the case. The police are appealing to the public for any information that could aid in their investigation.
The case has stirred significant discussion about the responsibilities and trust placed in school counselors. The community is grappling with the implications of such breaches of trust, particularly in an environment where students are meant to feel safe and supported.
Parents and guardians are being advised to talk to their children and report any suspicious behavior to the authorities. The LAPD is committed to thoroughly investigating these allegations and providing support to any additional victims who may come forward.
