Los Angeles, California – Award-winning actress Halle Berry shared a fascinating anecdote on Jimmy Kimmel Live about being asked out by Prince at one of his concerts at the Key Club on Sunset. She recalled the singer sending a message on a piece of paper, reminiscent of a note passed in school, asking if she would go out with him. Berry amusingly admitted that she kept the paper instead of responding.
During her appearance on the late-night show, Berry also discussed her iconic role as Storm in the X-Men franchise and addressed rumors about appearing in films alongside Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds. She expressed interest in joining the cast but revealed that she had not received any calls about it.
In addition to her acting career, Berry recently starred in the survival thriller “Never Let Go,” which she also produced. The film, directed by Alexandre Aja, is currently playing in theaters. Berry spoke to Marie Claire about the project, reflecting on her disappointment with the lack of diversity at the Oscars, especially the absence of Black women winners in the Best Actress category since her historic win in 2001 for “Monster’s Ball.”
The actress has been vocal about the Academy’s lack of inclusivity, particularly following the #OscarsSoWhite movement in 2016. In a conversation with Elaine Welteroth, the former editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue, Berry expressed her frustration with the perceived lack of progress in diversity efforts within the industry.
Reflecting on her Oscar win, Berry admitted feeling let down by the lack of meaningful change and genuine representation in Hollywood. Despite her groundbreaking achievement, she acknowledged the persistent gaps in recognition and opportunities for Black women in the film industry.
