MIAMI, FL – In a chilling incident that has left residents on edge, a 46-year-old man was apprehended in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood after allegedly hiding in a woman’s closet and attempting to assault her. The suspect, identified as Jorge Ortega, is now facing multiple charges, including attempted sexual battery, kidnapping, and burglary with assault.
According to authorities, the unsettling events unfolded over the weekend when the victim returned to her apartment after running errands. She was startled to find Ortega concealing himself in her closet. As she attempted to defend herself, a physical altercation ensued, during which Ortega is accused of attacking her, even seizing a pair of scissors she tried to use for protection.
The victim recounted to police that Ortega touched and licked her against her will, escalating to an attempted sexual assault. The tense situation took a turn when the victim mentioned that her son would be home soon, prompting Ortega to flee the scene, leaving behind a plastic rose as a bizarre token.
Further investigations revealed that Ortega had also intruded into another residence in the area. Two other victims reported that they discovered him sleeping on their couch and consuming their food. Fortunately, no physical harm was inflicted in that instance.
Ortega, who police say is homeless, was subsequently arrested and is awaiting a court appearance. He initially refused to appear before a bond court judge, leading to a rescheduling of his hearing. His mugshot has been released as authorities continue to piece together the full scope of his actions.
This incident has sparked concern among local residents, highlighting the importance of community vigilance and safety. Miami police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward as they continue their investigation.
For now, the community remains on alert, grappling with the unsettling nature of the crime and its implications for neighborhood safety.
