Ilhan Omar Under Fire for Attacking the United States

( – Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has a long history of making disrespectful, anti-Semitic comments about Israel and the United States. In 2019, she made a comment saying that “political influence in this country” is pushing for “allegiance to a foreign country” in reference to Israel. Critics decried the remark as anti-Semitic because it alludes to the bigoted idea of “dual loyalty” used to make it seem as though Jewish Americans are “others” or not loyal to the US.

Omar has also made anti-American comments, like the time in 2020 when she said that her supporters should start “dismantling the whole system of oppression” in the US. Those remarks led to a House GOP resolution condemning her for her comments.

Recently, she made more troublesome comments that have led to more criticism, not just from Republicans this time. Her remarks led to condemnation from a dozen Democrats as well.

Dems Condemn Ilhan’s Anti-American Remarks

On Monday, June 7, Omar compared the US to Hamas and the Taliban in a tweet. She claimed all of them have committed “unthinkable atrocities” against people. She said there has to be the “same level of accountability and justice for all victims of crimes against humanity.”

On Wednesday, a group of Jewish Democratic lawmakers called on Omar to clarify her remarks. Rep. Brad Schneider (D-IL) said her remarks were as “offensive” as they were “misguided.” He called on the congresswoman to clarify her comments. The Democratic lawmakers said “ignoring the differences” between terrorists and democracies “discredits one’s intended argument” at best, and at worst, it “reflects deep-seated prejudice.”

Instead of apologizing for her comments, Omar called the statement from the group of Jewish lawmakers “offensive.”

Republicans Also Speak Out

Former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley responded to the congresswoman’s remarks, saying, “Imagine thinking there is a moral equivalency” between democracies and terrorists.

Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) told Omar, a former refugee, that she is welcome to leave the country that embraced her if she truly believes it’s so terrible. Sure, America is so incredible that a refugee is now a sitting member of Congress, but she seems to have forgotten that.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center, a human rights organization, called on Democrats in Congress to strip Omar of her committee assignments for “accusing the US of crimes against humanity.” When Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) made comments the Left didn’t like, they immediately moved to strip her of her committee assignments. Why not treat Omar the same way? Especially considering how many times the Dem congresswoman has made hateful, anti-American comments.

It seems as though there continues to be a double-standard and abundance of hypocrisy on the Left. Democrats claim they support inclusiveness, but when push comes to shove they never do anything about the prejudice coming from their side of the aisle.
