Influencer accused of intentionally running over police officer

MIAMI BEACH, FL – A Miami Beach police officer is recovering after a dramatic encounter with a motorcyclist that took a dangerous turn. The incident unfolded when the officer attempted to stop a motorcyclist on Fifth Street, only to be run over by the rider, who then tried to flee the scene.

The motorcyclist was later identified as Armando Vulgasa, a well-known Instagram fitness influencer boasting over 763,000 followers. Known for his strength demonstrations, Vulgasa’s social media persona contrasts sharply with his recent court appearance, where he was seen in tears, arms wrapped in bandages, facing charges of battery on a police officer.

According to the arrest affidavit, the officer initially succeeded in pulling Vulgasa over. The motorcyclist appeared to comply, maneuvering his bike towards the shoulder in what is commonly referred to as a “dock walk.” However, without warning, he suddenly accelerated toward the officer, striking him and causing significant injuries, including fractured ribs and multiple abrasions.

Vulgasa reportedly fled the scene because he was driving without a valid license. His escape was short-lived, as he was involved in another traffic incident shortly after, where police were able to positively identify him as the driver.

Miami Beach Police Chief released a statement highlighting the dangers officers face daily. The statement emphasized that the officer was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment and has since returned home to recover with the support of his family.

The suspect, Vulgasa, is currently held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center under an immigration hold. He is scheduled to appear before a judge to address these charges.

This incident underscores the risks law enforcement officers encounter while serving their communities, and the department expressed gratitude for the officer’s recovery progress.
