Iran launches 180 missiles at Israel, US fires interceptors – Major retaliation expected

Washington, D.C. – The United States deployed a series of interceptors to combat the barrage of Iranian ballistic missiles aimed at Israel, stated the Pentagon. President Joe Biden confirmed his support for Israel’s defense efforts and revealed that he had been closely monitoring the situation from the Situation Room early that morning.

The Israeli military reported that approximately 180 missiles were launched towards Israel, with the majority being successfully intercepted. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian defended the attack as a necessary response to protect Iranian interests and citizens. The Pentagon disclosed that two US Navy destroyers fired the interceptors at the missiles, believed to have been launched from Iran.

During a press briefing, Maj Gen Patrick Ryder noted that the US military was still evaluating the effectiveness of the interceptors against the Iranian missiles. President Biden commended Israel’s military capabilities and expressed confidence in their defense system.

The recent escalation in conflict has put the region on edge, prompting discussions on potential responses to Iran’s actions. White House national security spokesman Jake Sullivan emphasized the need for consequences for Iran’s provocative behavior. The US State Department echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of both deterrence and diplomacy in de-escalating tensions in the region.

In response to the attacks, Iran’s armed forces issued warnings against direct military intervention in support of Israel. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps cited recent incidents involving key Iranian commanders and leaders of Iran-backed militias as justification for their actions. The situation remains tense as global powers navigate the complexities of the escalating conflict.
