Florham Park, New Jersey – Following a series of major changes in the New York Jets’ roster this offseason, wide receiver Allen Lazard has decided to remain with the team by agreeing to a significant pay cut, sources confirmed on Thursday.
Despite speculation that Lazard would be let go due to his high base salary of $11 million for the 2025 season, the Jets and Lazard reached an agreement after weeks of negotiations. His new base salary is now $2.25 million, with the possibility of earning an additional $250,000 through game-by-game roster bonuses.
In agreeing to the pay cut, the Jets guaranteed $1.75 million of Lazard’s base pay and voided the final year of his contract, enabling Lazard to become a free agent after the current season. This move reduces Lazard’s 2025 cap charge significantly from $13.2 million to $4.6 million, with an additional “dead” charge in 2026.
General manager Darren Mougey confirmed that discussions around revising Lazard’s contract began in March after the player was granted permission to seek a trade. Despite facing challenges in finding a trade partner, the Jets ultimately decided to keep the talented receiver.
Lazard, along with Garrett Wilson, remains a key player in the Jets’ receiving corps, which now includes newly signed veterans Josh Reynolds and Tyler Johnson. As the only remaining connection to former Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers, Lazard will play a crucial role in the team’s upcoming season.
Throughout his seven-year career, which began with the Packers, Lazard has amassed impressive statistics, showcasing his abilities as a reliable receiver. Despite facing setbacks in New York, Lazard remains determined to contribute positively to the Jets’ success in the upcoming season.
