ANAHEIM, California – After his victory over Mike Tyson last fall, Jake Paul gears up to face former boxing world champion Julio César Chávez Jr. on the 28th of June at the Honda Center. The highly anticipated match between Paul and Chávez will be globally streamed on DAZN.
Paul, with a record of 11-1 and 7 knockouts, demonstrated his skills by convincingly defeating Tyson in an uneventful bout last November. Drawing in a record 65 million households worldwide on Netflix, the 58-year-old Tyson only landed 18 punches in eight rounds. This victory marked Paul’s fifth consecutive win since his split-decision loss to Tommy Fury in February 2023.
On the other hand, Chávez Jr., son of the legendary Julio César Chávez Sr., brings a reputation that pales in comparison to his father’s storied career. Despite winning the WBC middleweight title in 2011 and successfully defending it three times, Chávez’s boxing journey has been lackluster. He suffered defeats to notable opponents like Sergio Martinez and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, with a controversial bout against Daniel Jacobs resulting in a premature end due to weight complications.
Having returned from a two-and-a-half-year hiatus in July, Chávez secured a decision victory over former UFC fighter Uriah Hall. The upcoming fight with Paul holds significance, as both fighters share a common opponent in former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. While Paul emerged victorious in a unanimous decision over Silva, Chávez faced a split decision loss to the same opponent in Mexico the previous year.
In a co-feature of the event, Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez, unified WBA and WBO cruiserweight titleholder, will defend his titles against mandatory challenger Yuniel Dorticos. Ramirez, with a remarkable record of 47-1 and 30 knockouts, showcased his dominance by unifying the WBA and WBO belts in a recent victory over Chris Billam-Smith. Dorticos, a former two-time cruiserweight world champion, looks to reclaim glory in the highly anticipated matchup.
