Los Angeles, California – Ke Huy Quan, known for his Academy Award-winning role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” has recently secured a lead role in the upcoming Lionsgate action thriller “Fairytale in New York,” directed by Jalmari Helander. The film is set to start its international sales at AFM.
Produced by FlynnPictureCo.’s Beau Flynn, “Fairytale in New York” follows the story of an unassuming cab driver in New York City on Christmas Eve. After encountering a group of criminals during his last ride before reuniting with his estranged son for the holiday, he embarks on a high-stakes mission to retrieve his son’s valuable Christmas gift.
The script for the film was penned by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, collaborators with Flynn on the DC superhero film “Black Adam.” The project is being overseen by Scott Sheldon as an executive producer for FlynnPictureCo. Shelby Thomas is managing the project for the company, and James Myers is overseeing it for Lionsgate.
Chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, Adam Fogelson, expressed excitement for the collaboration on “Fairytale in New York.” The film is praised as an action-packed, emotionally resonant story about family, featuring the talented Ke Huy Quan in a prime role, following his recent success in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”
Following his Oscar win for Best Supporting Actor, Quan is also set to lead in “Love Hurts,” an action comedy for Universal Pictures and 87North. In addition, he will appear in the Russo brothers’ upcoming project “The Electric State” for Netflix and has recent TV credits in “Loki” and “American Born Chinese.”
Helander, director of the film “Sisu,” which received critical acclaim and achieved success at TIFF, reunites with Lionsgate for “Fairytale in New York.” The collaboration with Haines and Noshirvani, known for their work on “The Mauritanian,” showcases a promising lineup for this action-packed thriller.
