Reid Duran, 35, was taken to an interview room at the Xenia Justice Center after he agreed to be questioned. He lunged at the officer, who then threw him to the ground and handcuffed him.

Duran had lied about being the parent of a kindergartener at St. Brigid’s open house, officials said, before suspicious school staff called police. The suspect allegedly told police later he was attempting to kidnap a 5-year-old girl.

Duran was taken to the Xenia Police Department after he attempted to steal the child from St. Brigid School. He was restrained and is now sitting in jail without bail. The suspect was charged with attempted kidnapping, felonious assault and escape, and his bail hearing is set for Monday morning.

The suspect’s brother and mother said he has suffered from schizophrenia for years and has never shown any predilection for violence. The family is now struggling to raise money for his legal defense.

Duran sat stiffly in the chair, swaying back and forth with his hands in his lap, before putting his full weight into the pen and stabbing the officer. The officer was forced to place Duran into a rolling chair with handcuffs on.
