Charlotte, North Carolina – Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball will be sitting out the remainder of the season to undergo two minor procedures on his right ankle and wrist, the team announced on Friday. The decision comes after Ball played through pain for several weeks, seeking advice from doctors on the best course of action to ensure he can fully heal and have a productive offseason.
The 23-year-old point guard has a history of ankle injuries, having missed a significant number of games in the past few seasons. This season, Ball was averaging a career-high 25.2 points per game, along with 7.4 assists and 4.9 rebounds in 47 games. His performance on the court was notable, becoming the first Hornets player to average 25 points and seven assists in a season.
Despite Ball’s absence, the Hornets have been accumulating draft picks, adding to their potential for future success. The team has had to navigate through injuries to key players like Brandon Miller, Miles Bridges, and Mark Williams, limiting the effectiveness of their lineup. Miller and Bridges both dealt with their own injury setbacks, including season-ending surgeries, while Williams had his season impacted by a failed trade to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The decision to sideline Ball for the rest of the season marks the end of an impressive year for the young star, who has shown immense growth and potential. Although his absence will be felt on the court, the Hornets are looking towards the future with optimism as they continue to build a competitive roster for the seasons ahead.
