New York, NY – A federal judge in New York made a significant ruling in the ongoing legal battle between Sean “Diddy” Combs and his former music producer, Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones. While the judge dismissed some claims filed by Jones against Combs, his company, and his chief of staff, Kristina Khorram, the lawsuit is set to continue in a streamlined manner. The decision was outlined in a 31-page opinion issued by U.S. District Judge J. Paul Oetken on Monday.
According to the ruling, Jones failed to demonstrate that he suffered a necessary injury to his “business or property” due to a violation of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO). The judge pointed out that the alleged non-payment to Jones for his work on Combs’ Love Album did not establish a clear “causal connection” to any purported racketeering activity. As a result, the racketeering claims against Combs, Combs Global, and Khorram were dismissed.
Despite the dismissal of certain claims, the judge allowed the case to proceed with allegations of sex trafficking against Combs and Khorram. Additionally, claims of sexual assault and premises liability against Combs were upheld. The ruling was seen as a partial victory by Jones’ lawyer, Tyrone Blackburn, who emphasized that the case was still alive and that Combs and Khorram would need to prepare for further legal proceedings.
Combs and Khorram have adamantly denied any wrongdoing, with Combs’ lawyers stating that he has never sexually assaulted or engaged in sex trafficking. Khorram also issued a statement denying any involvement in the alleged misconduct, expressing the harm caused to her reputation by false accusations.
In the judge’s ruling, it was highlighted that Jones’ lawsuit met the requirements for claiming violations of state and sex trafficking laws, detailing disturbing allegations against Combs. The lawsuit accused Combs of coercing Jones into engaging in sexual acts and manipulating him with promises of economic benefits while using threats of physical harm.
Currently facing charges of sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and transportation to engage in prostitution, Combs could potentially face 15 years to life in prison if convicted. This legal battle is one of several that Combs is facing, with multiple plaintiffs coming forward with allegations of sexual misconduct against him. The case is scheduled for trial on May 5.
