Los Angeles, CA – Marvel Studios hosted the world premiere of their latest film, Thunderbolts* on Tuesday night, followed by several fan screenings. The highly-anticipated movie has sparked excitement among fans, leading to the sharing of major plot details and leaked footage online.
Spoilers ahead!
Despite some potentially fake footage circulating online, genuine leaks have emerged, including the reveal of the new team name during the end credits. It has been confirmed that the Thunderbolts will now be known as the New Avengers moving forward. A video showcased artwork of the team transitioning from “Thunderbolts” to “The New Avengers,” a nod to the comic books while introducing a different team dynamic in the MCU.
In a post-credits scene, Sam Wilson is shown forming his own group of Avengers and taking legal action against his old friend Bucky’s team for using the name without permission. The possibility of these two groups joining forces in the future blockbuster, Avengers: Doomsday, remains uncertain.
With a standard runtime of 2 hours and 6 minutes, Thunderbolts* is estimated to make between $63 million and $77 million domestically during its opening weekend, a satisfying result for a movie with a modest budget of $180 million. Despite lacking major A-list stars, the film boasts a talented cast including Florence Pugh and Sebastian Stan.
Son Lux, an American experimental band known for their award-nominated score in “Everything Everywhere All at Once” will be providing the soundtrack for Thunderbolts*. The movie follows an unconventional team of antiheroes on a perilous mission orchestrated by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, pushing them to confront their pasts and possibly unite as something greater in the face of adversity.
Returning to their Marvel Cinematic Universe roles are familiar faces like Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and David Harbour, alongside newcomers to the franchise. Directed by Jake Schreier and produced by Kevin Feige, Thunderbolts* promises to deliver an action-packed and emotionally charged cinematic experience when it hits theaters on May 2, 2025.
