Metulla, Israel – Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a strong warning in response to three rockets fired from Lebanon towards Galilee communities on Saturday morning. Katz emphasized that Israel will not tolerate such attacks, reiterating their commitment to the security of the region. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) promptly intercepted the rockets, activating sirens in the northern town of Metulla.
After the incident, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir conducted a situational assessment, affirming that Israel would respond severely to the morning’s attack. He made it clear that the State of Lebanon is responsible for any breaches in the agreement regarding cross-border attacks. Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam cautioned about the potential resumption of military operations in the southern part of the country, emphasizing Lebanon’s authority in deciding matters of war and peace.
Israel retaliated by targeting towns in southern Lebanon in response to the rocket launch. Reports indicated Israeli artillery strikes on towns in southern Lebanon and airstrikes on towns closer to the border. The IDF conducted airstrikes in several locations, including Yahmar al-Shaqif, Arnoun, Kfar Tibnit, Markaba, Khiyam, and Houla. Additionally, there were reports of machine gun fire in Houla, Markab, and Kfar Kila.
Despite the escalation, the IDF assured that there were no changes in the Home Front Command security guidelines and no injuries had been reported at that time. The situation remains fluid, with ongoing developments in the region. The IDF’s response underscored Israel’s commitment to defending its territories and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
As tensions rise between Israel and Lebanon, both countries are closely monitoring the situation. The recent exchange of fire highlights the precarious nature of the region, with the potential for further hostilities looming. The international community is urged to intervene and help de-escalate the situation before it spirals out of control.
