Lightfoot's Chicago Hits Milestone with 800 Homicides to Date for 2021

( – Chicago’s Democratic Mayor, Lori Lightfoot, has had a busy year. She banned white reporters from interviewing her, faced a backlash from police officers, and saw a record number of murders in the Windy City.

On Tuesday, December 14, a gunman shot 23-year-old Sheridan Freeman inside a home. His murder marked the 800th homicide in the city. In 2020, there were 784 murders and in 2019, 552. More than 4,300 people have suffered from gunshot wounds in the city this year.

In 2019, Lightfoot introduced the “Our City, Our Safety” plan, targeting 15 areas that saw an increase in violence. All of those areas have seen a rise in murders and shootings, despite the extra effort and money the city is spending.

In West Pullman, where Freeman died, homicides are up 450%. Not only have hundreds of adults become victims, but more than 40 kids have also lost their lives to violence.

While the city is losing its residents at a horrifying rate, Lightfoot is at war with the police. She implemented a vaccine mandate against the wishes of officers. The police have also slammed the mayor for her behavior in the wake of 29-year-old Officer Ella French’s murder. The officer’s partner was fighting for his life when the police asked the mayor to stay away.

Lightfoot is up for reelection in 2023. Will Chicago residents boot her out of office and pick someone who cares about their safety?
