Law enforcement officials have confirmed that ten people were killed and numerous others were injured when a gunman opened fire on a ballroom dance club in Monterey Park, California where people were assembled to mark the Lunar New Year.
Capt. Andrew Meyer of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau stated that the assailant, identified as a male, had left the premises by the time officers arrived at the scene at 10:30 p.m. Ten of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while the remaining ten were taken to nearby medical facilities in varying states of health, from stable to critical.
The suspect is described as a middle aged Asian male with glasses and a beany hat who is between 5’7″ and 5’9″, he is still at large.
According to Meyer, when officers entered the club they heard people “screaming” as they fled. Firefighters were already attending to the wounded.
