Lorde Unveils New Album "Virgin": What to Expect from Her Bold Return on June 27!

Los Angeles, California — Lorde has officially announced the release of her highly anticipated fourth studio album, titled Virgin, set to launch on June 27 through Republic Records. This new project follows the singer’s recent return to the music scene with the single "What Was That," a collaboration with producers Jim-E Stack and Daniel Nigro.

Virgin will feature a total of 11 tracks, showcasing Lorde’s unique sound and artistic vision. The album’s production is primarily handled by Stack and includes contributions from notable names such as Fabiana Palladino, Andrew Aged of Inc. No World, Buddy Ross, and Devonté Hynes from Blood Orange. Renowned mixing engineers Spike Stent and Tom Elmhirst have also been involved, with mastering by Chris Gehringer.

In a heartfelt email to her fans, Lorde described the album as a reflection of herself, emphasizing a theme of transparency. She likened its color to that of "bathwater, windows, ice, [and] spit," suggesting an unfiltered and direct approach. "I was trying to see myself, all the way through. I was trying to create a document that reflected my femininity: raw, primal, innocent, elegant, open-hearted, spiritual, and even masculine," she wrote. Her candid expression of pride and fear regarding this work reveals her commitment to authenticity and vulnerability in her music.

Previously, Lorde’s 2021 album Solar Power generated significant buzz, with accompanying visuals released over the years. Tracks such as "Oceanic Feeling" and "The Path" featured striking imagery that extended the album’s narrative. Additionally, she released an EP showcasing re-recorded Solar Power songs in Māori, broadening her artistic reach and honoring her roots.

Beyond album work, Lorde has remained active in the music community. She participated in a discussion with Hunter Schafer on The A24 Podcast, launched a Sonos Radio station named Solarsystym, and covered various songs, including Rosalía’s "Hentai." Her versatility is further highlighted in collaborations with artists like Charli XCX for "Girl, So Confusing Featuring Lorde" and Marlon Williams on "Kāhore He Manu E."

As anticipation builds for Virgin, fans can look forward to the insights Lorde will share through her new album, marking another chapter in her evolving musical journey. Her emphasis on personal truth promises to resonate deeply, reflecting a sincere articulation of self and artistry.
