Loudoun County man allegedly kills father after argument

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged a 24-year-old man with second-degree homicide for stabbing his father early Monday morning.

Angus Ian Brown killed 62-year-old David Brown by “way of a serious cut” with a hatchet before sunrise on Monday at the family’s home in Hamilton, Virginia.

Officers arrived at the residence on the 17000 block of Twinoaks Place, located between Leesburg Pike and Colonial Highway, before six in the morning.

According to a press release by the sheriff’s office, they discovered David “suffering from life-threatening injuries.”

The spokesman for the sheriff’s office, Sam Shenouda, said that David’s wife and another son were both at home at the time of the incident.

As per Shenouda’s statement, David received first aid from the responding paramedics but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman said Angus went to a neighbor’s property, where deputies could apprehend him and take him into custody without any resistance near the residence.

For the time being, investigators need a clearer understanding of the events that led up to the incident or the possible motivations behind it.

According to Shenouda, family members are still being questioned.

Shenouda speculated that the father and son might have gotten into an argument, though it may be too soon in the investigation to draw any firm conclusions.

Chapman said that the authorities want to ensure they get all the information they need, including what kind of relationship they had or if there have been any other calls to the police about problems at home.

The homicide rate in the area is quite low, making the tragic events of the new year all the more shocking, according to Chapman.

After receiving the news of David’s death from sheriff’s deputies on Monday, the neighborhood was shocked.

Nan Zhang, who has been living next door to the Browns, said that he witnessed a police officer force someone to the ground from his window. But Zhang had no idea that it was Angus who had been taken into custody for the murder of his father.

We don’t have a lot of murders here in Loudoun County so to start the year off this way is really tragic.

“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that. His father is a very nice guy,” Zhang said.

Zhang said to the press that the Browns welcomed Zhang and the family with a homemade apple pie when they moved into the neighborhood eight years ago. He had seen David walking his two large dogs multiple times.

According to some other neighbors, David retired from his job about a week ago.

Angus is now charged with “cut or wound in the commission of a felony.” He is in the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond.

According to Virginia’s sentencing guidelines, he will face up to 45 years in prison if he is found guilty.

Other recent patricide cases

In mid-December last year, 20-year-old Carrun McDaniel shot and killed his 42-year-old father, Theothilus McDaniel, at an apartment complex in Atlanta’s northwest suburbs.

At around 10:40 in the morning, officers from the Atlanta Police Department were dispatched to the 3700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, where the Synergy Multiple Family Apartments are located.

Police discovered Theothilus lying on the floor of his apartment. He had been shot in the chest and lower back. He was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, but it was too late by the time they arrived. He was later pronounced dead.

According to police, the victim’s son has been arrested and charged with felony murder. Carrun was transported to the Fulton County Jail without any struggle.

Reports said the relatives and neighbors all seemed very surprised by the incident. The father, a well-known tattooist, was described as a nice guy.

A neighbor also said they never had any problems with him or his family. In their minds, the son would never do such a thing.

There was another case of patricide at the beginning of December. A man from Douglas County is serving time in prison on charges of fatally shooting and killing his father.

Police were dispatched to a residence on Carrington Pkwy in Villa Rica in response to a report.

When they approached the house, 28-year-old Aaron Pope showed up while holding a gun. The officers rushed to take him into custody. They also discovered that his 49-year-old father, Anthony Pope, had been shot multiple times.

He was transported to the nearby Tanner Hospital but pronounced dead shortly.

Officers have arrested Aaron and charged him with felony murder. He is currently being held in the Douglas County Jail.
