Venice, Italy – Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino’s highly anticipated movie, “Queer,” starring Daniel Craig, has found a home with the distribution company A24 for its US release. Known for its expertise in handling daring and unconventional films, A24 emerged as the ideal choice for this adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ work, featuring Craig in a role that promises to challenge his previous iconic performances.
“Queer” has already garnered attention with early screenings in Italy and has now secured a deal with A24 after a competitive bidding process. The film is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival before making its North American debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, followed by a special presentation at the New York Film Festival.
Guadagnino, known for his acclaimed work on “Call Me By Your Name,” reunited with screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes for “Queer,” filmed in the historic Cinecitta studios in Rome. The movie transports audiences to 1950s Mexico City, where the character William Lee, portrayed by Craig, embarks on a transformative journey after encountering a young student named Eugene Allerton.
In addition to Craig, the star-studded cast of “Queer” includes Drew Starkey, Lesley Manville, Jason Schwartzman, Andra Ursuta, Michael Borremans, and David Lowery. The production was a collaborative effort involving Fremantle, Fremantle North America, The Apartment, Frenesy Film Company, Cinecitta, and Frame by Frame, with financing from the Fremantle Group.
