Los Angeles, California – A sequel to the beloved 1998 film “Practical Magic” is officially in the works, with “Practical Magic 2” slated for release on Sept. 18, 2026. The film will reunite stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, who are set to reprise their iconic roles as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, descendants of a long line of witches.
In the original film, which was adapted from Alice Hoffman’s novel, the sisters grappled with a longstanding family curse that complicates their romantic lives. While specific plot details for the sequel remain under wraps, reports suggest the narrative will draw from later entries in Hoffman’s “Practical Magic” book series.
Warner Bros. has teased fans with a brief, enigmatic video featuring Bullock and Kidman delivering an incantation: “Tooth of wolf and morning dew. Something old and something new. Let the spell begin to mix. Sept. 18, 2026.” This announcement coincides with another significant release on that date—the reboot of “Resident Evil,” which is being produced by Sony.
Despite its mixed reception upon release and disappointing box office numbers, “Practical Magic” has since developed a loyal following, becoming a cult classic over the years. In a bid to expand this universe, Warner Bros. attempted to launch a prequel series titled “Rules of Magic” in 2019, but the project ultimately did not materialize.
The sequel is being helmed by Susanne Bier, known for her work in film and television, while Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the original, is on board as the screenwriter. Nicole Kidman expressed optimism about the sequel’s progress during a conversation with Variety in February, noting that production is “moving ahead rapidly.”
Both lead actresses, who have each received Academy Awards for their work, are also involved in producing the sequel, collaborating with Denise Di Novi, who produced the original film. The combination of their star power and the nostalgic appeal of the story is expected to attract both original fans and new viewers alike.
As the release date approaches, anticipation continues to build for a modern take on the magical story, promising that the sisters’ mystical adventures will cast a new spell on audiences.
