DENVER, CO – Police in Aurora are grappling with a troubling case involving a suspect linked to multiple murders. The man, 38-year-old Ricky Wrobel Smith, is now facing serious charges after a series of violent incidents, including a killing inside the Denver County Jail.
Authorities arrested Smith over the weekend on a DUI charge. He was subsequently placed in a cell with another inmate, Vincent Chacon. Early Monday morning, Smith allegedly strangled Chacon, leading to an uproar over the decision to house him with other inmates.
Chacon’s family is distraught, questioning how such a tragedy could occur. “My son was perfectly fine and was about to be released,” a family member expressed, bewildered by the circumstances surrounding Chacon’s death.
In a separate but related development, Aurora police have obtained an arrest warrant for Smith in connection with two stabbing deaths that occurred early Sunday morning. The victims, both homeless, were found near Colfax Avenue.
Smith’s actions have prompted a wave of concern and frustration from the victims’ families and the community. The suspect is currently being held at the Denver County Jail but will soon be transferred to Adams County Jail for further proceedings.
The upcoming court appearance will address at least one of the murder charges. Meanwhile, the victims’ families continue to seek answers and justice for their loved ones.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities face mounting pressure to explain how Smith was allowed such proximity to other inmates, given the severity of his alleged crimes.
The case has sparked a broader conversation about jail protocols and the safety of inmates, igniting calls for reform and accountability.
With Smith’s court hearing scheduled for next week, all eyes are on the legal proceedings, as the community seeks closure and clarity in the wake of these tragic events.
