TORONTO, CANADA – The tragic death of Agesa Sikuli has left her friends and loved ones in mourning, as they remember her as a compassionate young woman with a bright future. The 25-year-old was killed Sunday night when the car in which she was a passenger veered off course and plunged into the icy depths of Lake Ontario at Ashbridge’s Bay.
Police have charged Christian SJ, a 23-year-old from Oakville, with dangerous driving causing death. Friends reveal that Sikuli and SJ had been dating for only two weeks before the accident occurred.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. Sunday, authorities received an urgent call about a vehicle that had entered the water. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found that the driver had escaped the submerged car, but Sikuli remained trapped inside. Police divers braved the frigid waters to rescue her, but she was pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital.
A friend of Sikuli shared that she moved to Canada in 2021 to join her sister and seek a better life, while also supporting her parents who reside in Greece. Sikuli worked at Serano Bakery on Pape Avenue and was taking English classes, striving for a brighter future.
Her colleagues at the bakery are heartbroken by the loss. Her employer noted that Sikuli had been at work the day of the accident before heading out for dinner with SJ on the Danforth. The evening took a tragic turn when their car ended up in the lake, under circumstances that remain unclear.
In the wake of her untimely death, an online fundraiser has been launched to help cover the expenses of returning Sikuli’s body to her native Albania. SJ was apprehended on Monday and faced his first court appearance on Tuesday, with another scheduled for Thursday. It remains uncertain whether a bail hearing will take place at that time.
This heartbreaking incident has left a community in shock, as they come to terms with the sudden loss of a vibrant young woman who had so much to offer.
