HOUSTON, TX – A 28-year-old man lost his life after an off-duty deputy constable reportedly collided with his vehicle in a tragic incident on Canal Street near Live Oak Street. The deputy constable was allegedly en route to work when the accident occurred, raising serious questions about his driving behavior.
Witnesses at the scene described the deputy constable as driving aggressively and on the wrong side of the road. Antonio Briones, a neighbor, was among the first to attempt a rescue. “I pulled off the windshield and, along with another gentleman, tried to check his vitals,” Briones recounted. “He wasn’t responsive at any point.”
The victim, identified only as a 28-year-old man who lived about a block from the crash site, was pronounced dead at the scene. The deputy constable, who was in his personal vehicle, sustained minor injuries and has been placed on administrative leave.
The Houston Police Department (HPD) is leading the investigation into the crash, while Harris County Precinct 6 is conducting an internal affairs investigation. “We will not leave any stone unturned,” stated a representative from Precinct 6. The district attorney’s office was also present at the scene, assessing potential charges.
As the investigation continues, the community is left grappling with the loss of a young life and the troubling circumstances surrounding the incident. The constable’s aggressive driving has become a focal point of the inquiry, with multiple witnesses corroborating the account.
This tragic event underscores the importance of accountability and thorough investigation in incidents involving law enforcement officers, even when they are off duty. The findings of the investigation will be closely watched by the community and could have significant implications for the involved parties.
