HOUSTON, TX – A fatal altercation over a mere $20 unfolded near the Gulfton area in southwest Houston, leaving a community in shock and a family grieving. The incident occurred late last night on Chimney Rock, where a Honduran food truck was operating.
Just a day after the tragic event, the food truck resumed its operations. An employee, who wished to remain anonymous, shared that although she wasn’t present during the incident, her mother was working at the time. “She didn’t witness the shooting because she was busy cooking, but the sound of gunshots made her drop to the floor in fear,” the employee recounted.
According to the Houston Police Department, the victim had a confrontation with three suspects who were seeking $20. The victim promised to get the money and went to a nearby apartment but returned with a pistol instead. Despite pointing the gun at the suspects, he did not fire. The suspects, however, were armed and shot the victim, resulting in his death.
“It’s heartbreaking to think someone lost their life over such a trivial amount,” the employee lamented. Surveillance footage from a nearby gas station purportedly captured the three suspects. One of them was seen walking towards the food truck, which was out of the camera’s range, and soon returned with two accomplices. After the shooting, all three fled the scene in a car, heading west on Elm Street.
Alejandro Mendoza Garcia, a friend of the victim, expressed his sorrow and anger. “I can’t forgive them, but I hope God can,” he said. Garcia described his friend as a dedicated father and a hardworking individual who always helped others. “They took his life, and I can’t do anything about it,” he added, his voice heavy with emotion.
The community remains on edge as police continue their investigation, seeking justice for a senseless act of violence that has left a lasting scar.
