MIAMI, FL – A man has died following a police-involved shooting after a high-speed chase in Miami-Dade County. Officials report that the incident began as a routine traffic stop for a vehicle with dark-tinted windows.
Authorities say the driver, identified by family as 24-year-old Agusto Boyd Jr., failed to pull over, triggering a pursuit that ended in gunfire. The chase concluded near Northwest 4th Court and 85th Street, where the suspect’s yellow Corvette was cornered in a dead-end street.
Witnesses in the neighborhood described a chaotic scene, with gunshots ringing out and law enforcement swarming the area. “I heard about 12 gunshots,” said one resident, who observed efforts to resuscitate the driver after the shooting.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to stop the vehicle around 5:15 p.m. near 66th Street and Northwest 22nd Avenue. As the pursuit came to an end, the driver exited the vehicle while armed, prompting deputies to open fire.
Despite immediate efforts to save him, Boyd Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. Family members expressed their grief, noting that what began as a minor traffic violation escalated into a fatal encounter.
“This was supposed to be a simple traffic stop,” a family member lamented, emphasizing that the situation could have been resolved with a citation. Instead, it ended in tragedy when Boyd Jr. chose not to comply and emerged from the vehicle with a weapon.
The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative duty while the investigation is underway. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is leading the inquiry to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Law enforcement officials continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses to piece together the sequence of events.
