GRAND PRAIRIE, TX – A dramatic police chase unfolded in Grand Prairie early Wednesday morning, leading to a series of arrests and charges against 22-year-old Kendrell Pickett. Pickett, who is no stranger to law enforcement, is now facing multiple charges after a night of high-speed pursuits and a daring escape.
The incident began shortly after midnight when a Grand Prairie police officer attempted to stop a stolen Cadillac traveling erratically without headlights along Interstate 20. The vehicle, occupied by Pickett and an unidentified accomplice, sped away, prompting a chase that ended with the suspects abandoning the car and fleeing into nearby woods.
Police quickly deployed K-9 units and a helicopter to track down the duo. Both men were apprehended, handcuffed, and placed in separate police vehicles. During the arrest, Pickett sustained a dog bite, and officers awaited paramedics to provide medical attention.
In an unexpected turn of events, Pickett managed to maneuver his handcuffed hands from behind his back to the front of his body. Seizing the opportunity, he climbed into the driver’s seat of a police SUV and sped off, still restrained by handcuffs. The vehicle, a Tahoe without a partition, became the center of a second chase.
Officers pursued Pickett to Interstate 30, where they deployed spike strips to halt the stolen police vehicle. The Tahoe crashed after Pickett lost control, leaving tire marks down the service road. Officers swiftly apprehended Pickett, dragging him out of the vehicle.
Pickett now faces numerous charges, including evading arrest, theft of a motor vehicle, and assault of a public servant. Court documents reveal he was already out on bond for a separate aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge in Tarrant County, with a court date scheduled for next week.
Despite the chaos of the night, no officers were injured. Authorities continue to withhold the name of Pickett’s accomplice, who was also arrested. The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement pieces together the events leading to the dramatic pursuit.
