Man who was supposed to be in prison commits violent home invasion pretending to be Amazon

SAVANNAH, GA – Authorities have unveiled disturbing new details about a home invasion that rocked the Savannah community last month. The incident involved a suspect who allegedly posed as an Amazon delivery worker to gain access to a private residence, where he then brutally attacked the homeowner.

Police have identified the suspect as Tyrone Anthony, a 27-year-old with a lengthy criminal history. Anthony is accused of disguising himself as an Amazon employee to enter the home, where he reportedly assaulted George Hardison, known affectionately as “Dirk” by friends and family. The attack was captured on a Ring security camera, providing critical evidence of the events that transpired before and after the invasion.

In a shocking twist, it has been revealed that Anthony should have been incarcerated at the time of the attack. According to the district attorney’s office, Anthony’s attorney was under the impression that he was serving a prison sentence for previous charges, including possession of marijuana and a parole violation in Chatham County. A judge had denied him bond, and he was supposed to be transferred back to Chatham County to face these charges after completing his sentence in Richmond County. However, due to an unexplained error, Anthony was mistakenly released.

As Hardison recovers from his injuries, his friends and supporters are grappling with the implications of this oversight. Jamie Stroh, a close friend, expressed disbelief and concern over the incident, noting the severe impact it has had on Hardison’s life. Stroh has organized a benefit event to raise funds for Hardison’s recovery, drawing support from the community and even strangers eager to help.

The Savannah Police Department continues to search for a second individual involved in the home invasion, as the investigation remains active. Authorities have reached out to the Georgia Department of Corrections for an explanation regarding Anthony’s premature release, but have yet to receive a response.

In the meantime, the community rallies around Hardison, a beloved bartender at O’Connell’s Irish Pub. A benefit event is scheduled to take place at Boomy’s in downtown Savannah on February 23, aiming to gather financial support for Hardison’s ongoing recovery journey.

The case has raised significant questions about the criminal justice system and its handling of parole violations. As the investigation unfolds, the community remains vigilant, hoping for answers and accountability.
