New York – Martha Stewart is voicing dissatisfaction with her new documentary, “Martha,” which recently premiered on Netflix. The renowned lifestyle guru, at 83 years old, criticized the filmmaker, R.J. Cutler, for not utilizing much of her personal archive despite being granted full access.
Stewart expressed dismay over certain scenes in the documentary that she believed portrayed her in a negative light, such as showing her as a “lonely old lady walking hunched over in the garden.” Additionally, she objected to the emphasis on her time at the Alderson Federal Prison Camp in 2004, stating that it should not have been the central focus of the film’s second half.
In contrast, Stewart did appreciate the first half of the documentary for shedding light on lesser-known aspects of her life. She felt that it should showcase resilience and authenticity rather than emphasizing inner strength.
One of the issues Stewart raised was the soundtrack of the documentary, criticizing the use of a classical score that she felt did not align with her personality. She mentioned that she had requested rap music to be included, which she deemed essential to the overall tone of the film.
Cutler, the filmmaker behind “Martha,” defended his choices, stating that the documentary aimed to paint a complex and visionary portrait of Stewart. Despite the criticisms, he expressed pride in the final product and commended Stewart for her willingness to share her story.
“Martha” is now available for streaming on Netflix for viewers to make their own judgments on the portrayal of the iconic lifestyle figure.
