HARLEM, NY – In the heart of Harlem, a brazen attempted carjacking unfolded early Wednesday morning, leaving a man injured and two suspects on the run. The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. at a BP gas station on the corner of East 129th Street and Park Avenue, where police say two gunmen targeted a luxury vehicle, a white Maserati.
Authorities responded swiftly to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man suffering from three gunshot wounds. The victim, whose identity has not been released, sustained injuries to his left arm, left leg, and right shoulder. Despite the severity of the incident, he was promptly transported to Harlem Hospital, where he is expected to recover.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear as investigators work to determine whether the victim was specifically targeted or if it was a random act of violence. The New York Police Department has launched an extensive manhunt for the two suspects involved. At this stage, the police have yet to release a detailed description of the assailants.
Witnesses at the scene described a chaotic moment as the suspects attempted to seize the Maserati while the victim was about to refuel. During the confrontation, one of the gunmen opened fire, striking the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene. The luxury sports car, a symbol of affluence, may have been a factor in attracting the criminals’ attention.
Local residents expressed concern about the brazen nature of the crime, emphasizing the need for increased security measures in the area. “It’s alarming to see this happen in broad daylight,” one bystander remarked. “We hope the police can catch those responsible quickly.”
As the investigation continues, the NYPD is urging anyone with information about the incident or the suspects to come forward. Surveillance footage from the gas station and surrounding areas is being reviewed in hopes of identifying the culprits.
This incident highlights the persistent issue of carjackings in urban areas, a crime that often leaves communities on edge. The NYPD assures the public that they are dedicating significant resources to bring those responsible to justice and ensure the safety of Harlem residents.
