(AbsoluteNews.com) – On Monday, June 28, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) introduced legislation to form a select committee to investigate the January 6 incident on Capitol Hill. The decision came after Democrats were unable to get a 9/11-style committee through the Senate. The new bill allows her to have a say about who Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) chooses for the committee and he’s not thrilled about that.
HR 503 allows Republicans to choose five members to sit on the committee. However, those choices are supposed to be made with Pelosi. If she doesn’t like one of McCarthy’s picks, she could veto it. She’s also reportedly considering choosing a GOP lawmaker when she makes a decision about the eight congresspeople who will sit on the committee for her.
McCarthy told the Washington Examiner that when congressional committees are formed, “Democrats appoint the Democrats, the Republicans appoint the Republicans.”
New – Pelosi makes clear she could reject McCarthy’s picks to serve on Jan. 6 select committee. Asked if she could veto GOP picks, Pelosi said: “Yes,” she told me. She would NOT say if she would allow Rs who voted to overturn Biden’s wins to serve. “We’ll see who they nominate.”

There’s a concern that Pelosi will insist on putting anti-Trump Republicans, like Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), on the committee to argue with Democrats. That could lead to infighting that some reps think could lead up to the midterms, causing issues then. McCarthy has not said who he plans to seat on the committee.
