Dublin, Ireland – A jury in Dublin has ruled in favor of a woman who accused UFC superstar Conor McGregor of sexual assault in a hotel room in December 2018. McGregor has been ordered to pay the complainant 248,000 euros, approximately $257,000.
The civil jury in Ireland found that McGregor sexually assaulted the woman in a hotel penthouse after a night of heavy partying. McGregor, who denied the allegations and claimed the encounter was consensual, is not currently facing any criminal charges related to the incident.
The woman testified in court that McGregor forced her onto a bed, choked her, and made her fear for her life. A paramedic who treated her injuries the following day described the bruising as intense. McGregor’s lawyer argued that the encounter was consensual and that the allegations were false.
During the trial, the woman detailed how McGregor threatened to kill her and put her in a chokehold multiple times. Despite her fear, she said she eventually complied with his demands. Prosecutors initially declined to press charges against McGregor due to insufficient evidence.
The jury, composed of eight women and four men, ultimately rejected McGregor’s version of events. McGregor, who has not fought since a TKO loss in July 2021, has hinted at a comeback in the sports world. McGregor, who shares four children with Dee Devlin, his longtime fiancée, has faced a series of setbacks in recent years.
The ruling against McGregor marks a significant development in the ongoing legal battle. McGregor’s future in the UFC remains uncertain as he contends with the fallout from the trial. The case has stirred public debate about the intersection of sports, celebrity, and accountability.
