(AbsoluteNews.com) – Over Memorial Day weekend, dozens of former President Donald Trump’s supporters came together for a three-day conference in Dallas, Texas. Former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn spoke to the crowd at the “For God & Country Patriot Roundup” event on one of the days. His appearance drew a lot of criticism and now he’s defending himself.
During the event, an audience asked why a military coup like the one that happened in Myanmar couldn’t happen in the US. Flynn responded, ”No reason. I mean, it should happen here. No reason.” The comment drew criticism from the media and lawmakers like Liz Cheney.

Flynn slammed reports accusing him of calling for a coup. He said his comment was not calling for a military takeover, but instead, he was saying one would never be necessary in America. In a statement, he repeated the words he said with clarification, “There is no reason it (a coup) should happen here (in America),” he explained.
The retired lieutenant general accused the press of manipulating his words. The Army has said it has no plans to investigate him.
