Migrants Who Assaulted Border Patrol Agent Arrested And Charged

According to the FBI, two illegal immigrants were arrested and charged with pushing, dragging, and punching a Border Patrol agent while being apprehended in Texas on Tuesday.

In an assault on a federal officer, Kevin Escalona Gonzalez, 35, and Yuleixy Mata Fuentes, 27, both Venezuelan nationals, were arrested.

In the early hours of that morning, U.S. Border Patrol agents received information concerning a group of undocumented migrants crossing into the country. They did not know how many migrants were in the group at the time.

An agent followed the group into a residential area near Ascarate Park.

According to an FBI El Paso press release from Tuesday, Gonzalez and Fuentes dispersed and ran, but the border agent caught up with them.

They allegedly resisted arrest as the agent tried to handcuff them, resulting in an altercation.

According to FBI reports, the individuals punched, shoved, and dragged the agent during the altercation.

According to the bureau, the agent was able to gain control of them without incident.

Gonzalez and Fuentes appeared in court for the first time on Nov. 1 before a U.S. Magistrate Judge and are currently in custody at the El Paso County Correctional Facility.

As Special Agent in Charge of the FBI El Paso Field Division, Jeffrey R. Downey said, “The Border Patrol men and women work tirelessly to keep our borders safe.” “Assaults on Border Patrol agents or any other federal agents/officers or task force officers will not be tolerated and will be addressed swiftly by our office so they may continue to do their sworn duty to protect our communities.”

This case was investigated by the FBI El Paso Field Office’s Safe Streets and Violent Crime Task Force.
