(AbsoluteNews.com) – In 2017, Duan Weihongone, also known as Whitney Duan, one of the wealthiest women in China went missing suddenly. Her husband, Desmond Shum, was certain the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) orchestrated her disappearance. Recently, he said she reappeared to issue a warning.
In an interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes,” Shum said Duan called him on the evening of the release of his book, “Red Roulette: An Insider’s Story of Wealth, Power, Corruption, and Vengeance in Today’s China.”
THREAD: The book "Red Roulette" is a rare insider's account about corruption at the highest levels of China's government. Much of what the author, Desmond Shum, says can be backed up with documents. But the docs also show how much he may be holding back. Let's dive in! (1/x)

Not only were Shum and Duan married, but they were also business partners. He said his call with her was brief, but she asked him to reconsider releasing the book, saying, “No good comes to those who oppose the state.”
Shum claims his missing partner said she could be re-detained at any time. He said he believes she was reading from a script. According to the author, Duan’s mother died in June and she didn’t know about it. She also had no idea the world was in the middle of a pandemic.
Shum’s book blows the whistle on the CCP’s dark underbelly. It details how big money and the communists go hand-in-hand, and discusses his wife’s rise and fall. The book was released on September 7, despite the campaign to stop it. The author now lives in the UK with his and Duan’s 12-year-old son.
