Mom and son killed by intruder in home invasion

TULARE, CA – A violent home invasion in Tulare, California, has left a community in shock and a family in mourning. Early Thursday morning, a man attempted forced entry into homes along Berkeley Way, leaving tragedy in his wake.

Video footage reveals the suspect, identified as Fabian Gamez, 30, considering one home before targeting another. Tulare police explained that Gamez breached Melissa Quinn’s property, where a violent confrontation ensued.

Inside the home, the 58-year-old Quinn was attacked with a knife, prompting her son, Raymond Garza, 38, to try to save her. Both were fatally wounded as a result, and their deaths have left a profound void among those who knew and loved them.

Michael Garza, the second son, expressed the staggering loss of “our protectors.” His younger sibling managed to subdue Gamez with a firearm until officers arrived, but not before the family’s tragedy deepened.

Melissa’s home also housed her elderly father and Raymond’s three children, aged 7 to 19, who are now coping with the trauma of having witnessed such a horrifying event. The children had previously lost their mother in 2019, adding to their heartbreak.

Emphasizing the emotional impact, Michael highlighted the trauma his nephew endured. Detectives later suggested that Gamez may have been monitoring the area in the days leading up to the attack.

Currently charged with two counts of first-degree murder and residential burglary, Gamez entered a plea of not guilty earlier this week with another court appearance set for the coming month.

Friends and loved ones vowed to honor the vibrant spirits of Melissa and Raymond. The family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses, showing a community pulling together in their time of need.

The victims are remembered for their infectious enthusiasm, leaving behind heartbroken loved ones and countless memories.
