Nancy Pelosi Says “Defund the Police” Is “Dead”

(AbsoluteNews.com) – Far-Left members of the Democratic Party have been pushing to defund the police for nearly two years. They even managed to convince city leaders around the country to cut police budgets. Then, something predictable happened: crime skyrocketed. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is now trying to convince the country the movement is dead.

On Sunday, February 13, Pelosi discussed the “defund the police” movement during an interview with ABC “This Week” host George Stephanopoulos. The congresswoman quoted Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY), saying the anti-police movement is dead. The NY congressman recently slammed members of his party for continuing to use the phrase. He said nobody using the phrase should be taken seriously.

Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) has refused to stop calling for departments to lose their funding. Pelosi called out Bush, by name, during the interview, telling Stephanopoulos the congresswoman’s position is not that of the Democratic Party.

Although it’s true moderate Democrats largely did not support the movement, saying it misrepresented their position, the far-Left drowned out their objections. Pelosi allowed the movement to become the position of the party, intentionally or not. They can’t put the cat back into the bag just because crime is now out of control. It’s too little, too late.
