Los Angeles, California – Streaming giant Netflix is in discussions with digital media company BuzzFeed to bring a live version of the popular YouTube series “Hot Ones” to its platform. Hosted by Sean Evans, the show challenges celebrities to answer questions while eating increasingly spicy chicken wings.
Although no agreements have been finalized, sources reveal that Netflix is keen on having Evans host multiple live episodes of “Hot Ones” exclusively for their viewers. The negotiations are said to be in the early stages, with both BuzzFeed and Netflix remaining tight-lipped on the matter.
“Hot Ones” has garnered a massive following on YouTube, featuring top celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence, Paul Rudd, and Margot Robbie. Recent episodes have seen appearances from Vince Vaughn, Ariana Grande, Childish Gambino, Will Smith, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Jackman.
If the deal with Netflix materializes, “Hot Ones” will add to the streamer’s lineup of live content, which includes sports events like golf, tennis, and boxing, as well as unique programming like a hot dog eating contest and comedy specials from renowned comedians such as Chris Rock and Joe Rogan. Netflix has had mixed success with live events in the past but saw positive results with shows like “Everybody’s in L.A.”, hosted by John Mulaney. The platform is also set to introduce live wrestling programming and NFL games in the near future.
The news of the potential collaboration between Netflix and BuzzFeed was first reported by Bloomberg’s Lucas Shaw.
