New York, NY – Actor Alan Cumming will be reprising his role as Nightcrawler in Marvel’s upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday. The announcement of Cumming’s return to the franchise was made during a live stream event. Following the news, the Traitors US host took to social media to express his excitement and shared a video of himself practicing his Nightcrawler moves, captioning it with “Never say never.”
Cumming originally portrayed the character Nightcrawler in the 2003 film X2: X-Men United. He will join his former co-stars, including Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier/Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and James Marsden as Cyclops, in the new Avengers movie.
Responding to Cumming’s post on social media, Romijn expressed her anticipation by saying, “Can’t wait to see blue!” In a previous interview from June 2024, Cumming reminisced about his experience playing Nightcrawler in the X-Men series.
Reflecting on his role, Cumming described the X-Men film as being heavily influenced by queer themes, with a queer director and many queer actors involved in the project. He emphasized the importance of mainstream films addressing queerness in an artistic way to promote understanding and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on May 1, 2026, and fans are eagerly anticipating Cumming’s return as Nightcrawler alongside the star-studded cast. The upcoming film promises to continue Marvel’s legacy of creating inclusive narratives that resonate with diverse audiences worldwide.
