Ninth Jedi Spinoff Series Announced at Star Wars Celebration Japan – Exciting Updates for Disney+ Fans Revealed!

TOKYO, Japan – Lucasfilm delivered exciting news to Star Wars fans on the final day of the Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo. Among the surprises unveiled was a new series of nine “Star Wars: Visions” shorts set to premiere on Disney+ on October 29. Additionally, fans can anticipate the spinoff series “The Ninth Jedi” from writer-director Kenji Kamiyama.

During the event, James Waugh, Lucasfilm’s senior VP of franchise content and strategy, took the stage to announce the highly-anticipated “The Ninth Jedi” series. The creator, Kenji Kamiyama, expressed gratitude to the supportive audience and shared details about the upcoming adventures of Kara and Juro in “The Ninth Jedi” and the new spinoff, “Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi.”

The first season of “Star Wars: Visions” premiered on Disney+ in 2021, featuring a collection of nine animated shorts that included “The Ninth Jedi.” This particular short film followed the daughter of a lightsaber-smith, Lah Kara, as she is pursued by dark forces on a perilous mission, with Margrave Juro by her side.

Subsequent to the first season, the second season of nine animated shorts arrived in May 2023. The installment named “Screecher’s Reach” secured an Emmy Award for Directing in an Animated Television/Media Production for director Paul Young. The “Star Wars: Visions” franchise continues to expand with the upcoming release of a third volume, including the short film “Child of Hope,” which delves deeper into Kara and Juro’s story from “The Ninth Jedi.”

While a premiere date for the longform series has not been announced yet, fans can expect more Star Wars content to come. Disney and Lucasfilm made further revelations at the Tokyo event, notably the launch of “Galactic Battle” in Fortnite with the introduction of fan-favorite character Darth Jar Jar.
