One killed, nine injured after driver speeds through red light

CHICAGO, IL – A deadly multi-vehicle accident took place in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood late Friday night, claiming one life and injuring at least nine others. According to police, a speeding vehicle heading eastbound ran through a red light and crashed into two cars at an intersection along the 1600 block of West 59th Street at about 9:30 p.m. 

The driver of the speeding vehicle fled from the scene, leaving four passengers behind. Among the abandoned passengers was a young man in his 20s who sustained severe blunt-force trauma due to the collision. He was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Two other passengers, a 25-year-old woman critically injured from blunt force trauma and a 16-year-old girl with a broken femur, were also brought to the University of Chicago. Meanwhile, a 15-year-old girl suffered a spinal fracture and was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

Six individuals from the other involved vehicles were transported to nearby hospitals so that they could be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. 

The car involved in the incident was later identified as stolen, and a firearm was discovered at the crash site. The incident is currently being investigated by local law enforcement.
