San Francisco, California – OpenAI has unveiled its latest update for ChatGPT, introducing the Advanced Voice Mode (AVM) to a wider range of paying customers. This new feature is designed to provide a more natural and engaging conversation experience for users. Initially, AVM will be available to customers in ChatGPT’s Plus and Teams tiers, with Enterprise and Edu customers set to gain access in the coming weeks.
The rollout of AVM comes with a fresh design, with the feature now represented by a blue animated sphere, as opposed to the previous black dots. Users will be notified of the availability of AVM through a pop-up within the ChatGPT app, located next to the voice icon.
In addition to AVM, ChatGPT is introducing five new voices for users to try out – Arbor, Maple, Sol, Spruce, and Vale. This brings the total number of voices in ChatGPT to nine, moving towards a more natural and varied conversation experience. Notably, all the voice names are inspired by nature, aligning with the goal of making interactions with ChatGPT feel more authentic.
While the update brings several enhancements to ChatGPT, it notably does not include the video and screen sharing feature that was teased in a previous release. This feature, which allows for simultaneous processing of visual and audible information, is still in development with no set timeline for launch.
Despite some initial glitches reported during testing, OpenAI states that improvements have been made to AVM, with better accent understanding and smoother conversation flow. Moreover, customization features such as Custom Instructions and Memory are being extended to AVM, providing users with more control over their interactions with ChatGPT.
It’s worth noting that AVM is not yet available in certain regions, including the EU, the U.K., Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein. As OpenAI continues to refine and expand its AI capabilities, users can expect further updates and improvements to their ChatGPT experience.
