Playoff drama: Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever dismisses intentional eye poke in pivotal Game 2 against Connecticut Sun

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark addressed concerns over her eye injury following Game 1 against the Connecticut Sun in the WNBA playoffs. Clark reassured everyone that her right eye is feeling better and that she does not believe Sun’s player DiJonai Carrington intentionally hit her during the game.

Despite the bruising Clark suffered from being poked in the eye by Carrington during the first quarter of Game 1, she expressed relief during a media session on Tuesday as the bruising was nearly gone. Carrington, when asked about the incident, denied any intention of hitting Clark in the eye, citing that it was accidental while attempting to make a play on the ball.

Moving forward to Game 2, Clark emphasized the importance of making adjustments to give the Fever a better chance at victory. She acknowledged the challenge of facing the Sun but remained confident in the team’s capability to secure a win, referencing a previous victory over the Sun earlier in the season.

Fever coach Christie Sides also highlighted the need for improved defensive performance after a tough loss in Game 1. Sides emphasized the team’s defensive schemes and the importance of making it harder for the Sun to make successful shots.

Clark echoed the team’s determination to stay in the playoffs and expressed a strong belief in their ability to win the series against the Sun. With the pressure mounting as they face potential elimination, the Fever are focused on delivering a must-win performance in Game 2 with the goal of advancing further in the playoffs.
