The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the death of a 13-year-old boy who was fatally stabbed outside of a Chick-Fil-A restaurant.
A Los Angeles Police Department news release called on the community to help identify the killer of Marco Murillo Jr.
On Wednesday, LAPD officers with the Transit Services Division observed a physical altercation between several kids.
When officers arrived at the scene to deescalate the fight, they discovered Marco had been stabbed in the abdomen.
Lorena Lopez, Marco’s mother, told ABC 7 in Los Angeles that her son was at Chick-Fil-A when a group of male teens approached him. Prior to being transported to the hospital where he died, he was violently stabbed.
Officers handcuffed a person of interest at the scene. After a second person swung at police officers with a skateboard, the unidentified person got away. Officers detained the individual with the skateboard.
A White or Hispanic teenage boy between the ages of 14 and 17 is said to be the murder suspect. In a press conference, officers described him as medium-sized and built.
Nearly $2,000 has been raised of the $5,500 goal of Marco’s GoFundMe, which was created by Marco’s family.
The page shared that Marco was, “a wonderful kid with a very bright life ahead of him. He enjoyed spending time with his family and always did his best to make everyone proud.” His demeanor was described as sweet and impactful.
