(AbsoluteNews.com) – The radical Left has been targeting police officers around the country. Cops are being attacked by protestors and rioters who hate them. They’re also fighting city councils who want to defund their departments. Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best was so angry with the way the Democrats in her city were treating her force, she resigned from office.
She’s not alone.
According to Michael Lappe, the vice president of the Policemen’s Annuity and Benefit Fund of Chicago’s board of trustees, police officers in the Windy City are retiring at a rate that’s “unheard of.”
Lappe told the Chicago Sun-Times there are 59 police officers retiring in August. Another 51 are turning in their badges in September. The news organization reported retirements in the city are incredibly high this year with 335 through the end of July, compared to 475 total in 2019 and 339 in 2018.
Chicago Isn’t Alone
In the wake of the 2020 riots, police officers around the country have left their jobs. In Minneapolis, MN, the epicenter of the unrest, nearly 200 cops want to leave the department. Many of them are citing post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, as a reason. In July, the New York Times reported 65 law enforcement officers have already left, passing the average rate of 45 per year.
In New York City, 813 police officers retired from March 1 through July 22. What’s worse, another 1,172 cops submitted their papers. Deputy Inspector Richard Brea cites the lack of support from political leaders and a rise in anti-police rhetoric as the reasons.
The job of a police officer is one of the most dangerous professions in the country. Every day they put on their uniforms, walk out of their front doors and don’t know if they’ll ever return. These brave men and women put their lives on the line to keep the country safe, just like the US military, and they’re attacked for it.
Why would they continue to serve under stress like that?
