Police shoot armed man with felony warrant

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, CO – A bustling evening at the Glenwood Meadows Shopping Center took a dramatic turn when police shot and killed a suspect in the parking lot. The incident unfolded as officers recognized a man with an outstanding felony warrant for a firearm charge.

The suspect, upon being approached by officers, drew a gun, leading to a tense standoff. Charles Rice, a pilot from Texas, was having lunch nearby when he noticed a woman running with a distressed look on her face. Moments later, he heard gunshots and began recording the scene.

Rice’s video captured officers with their guns drawn, attempting to de-escalate the situation. Glenwood Springs police reported that an officer fired after the suspect brandished his weapon, shooting from two different positions as the suspect tried to take cover behind a car.

Backup arrived swiftly, and officers approached the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Rice remained inside the restaurant throughout the ordeal, expressing relief that police managed to keep bystanders safe in what he described as an unexpected and dangerous situation.

Authorities confirmed that no one else was injured during the incident. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office are now involved in the investigation.
