Las Vegas, Nevada – The Las Vegas Raiders have made the decision to part ways with quarterback Gardner Minshew heading into the 2025 season. This move comes following a challenging year for Minshew, where he struggled to secure wins for the team while under center.
Minshew, 28, joined the Raiders on a two-year deal last offseason but failed to find consistent success during his time with the team. In his nine starts in 2024, Las Vegas managed only two wins out of nine games, leading to the decision to release him before the start of the new league year.
Despite the possibility of another team acquiring Minshew through a trade before his official release, the quarterback still has a significant amount of salary guarantees for the upcoming season. The Raiders, however, will benefit financially by saving $6.34 million against the salary cap once Minshew is released.
Since being drafted in the sixth round in 2019, Minshew has been a consistent presence as a starting quarterback in the league, starting in at least two games each season. Throughout his career, he has accumulated nearly 12,000 passing yards, with 68 touchdowns and 34 interceptions in a total of 59 appearances.
With the departure of Minshew, the Raiders are now exploring their options at the quarterback position, with minority owner Tom Brady reportedly taking a keen interest in the team’s decision-making process. The team had previously shown interest in Matthew Stafford before he chose to remain with the Los Angeles Rams for the upcoming season.
